Smiles are wonderful almost regardless of the situation. Yet, a smile with powerful and healthy teeth is much more compelling, isn’t it?
Biggest Danger To Your Smile?
One of the biggest dangers to our dental health is a problem called gum disease. In fact, it is the primary cause of people losing teeth. A smile without teeth is not as attractive.
Fancy Solutions are Expensive and Not Perfect
Not everyone can afford to spend thousands of dollars on dental implants or veneers. And even if you can, these solutions are never as perfect as our own set of natural, healthy teeth.
In addition, many people are tired of the bleached out teeth look. Have you noticed?
A Huge Problem
Therefore, we should pay special attention to this problem. You can ask your dental hygienist how many people have gum disease. You will be surprised. Many professionals say that up to 75% of people have this problem. That is an amazing number of people!
If you think of it from a different perspective, 75% means every 3 out of 4 people! Or nearly 8 out of 10 of your friends and family!
Yet, how many of those people think they have a problem? If you asked 10 of your friends, the majority will say they don’t have any such problem.
But the statistics say otherwise. It is just that people remain woefully unaware.
Is The Standard Line Really Enough?
We have all been told from early childhood to brush and floss our teeth. But if 75% of people have a problem like this, is it really enough?
Eight of ten is an awful lot of people. Most of them, if asked will probably admit to at least brushing daily. And many will be flossing too. Why do they still have a problem then?
What Else Can You Do?
If standard brushing and flossing are not enough, what else can we do to help improve our dental health?
One tool that helped me personally and seems to have helped a lot of other people is the Hydro Floss oral irrigator.Â
In fact, many dentists and hygienists recommend it!
Most People Remain Uninformed
Yet, there are still some who have not learned of its power yet. This seems odd, given that it has been written about twice in a peer-reviewed journal.
The Journal of Clinical Periodontology published study results on this device not once, but twice! In both cases it was over 10 years ago, the first was closer to 20 years ago. Yet, many people still are not aware of this!
What You Want To See Happen
Generally speaking, you are looking for a reduction in your pocket depths. Pockets, as measured by your hygienist or dentist should normally be 3mm and below.
When you get above 3mm it may be considered an unhealthy situation by your dentist or periodontist. Â
These measurements act as a kind of gauge to your own dental health. By keeping tabs on them, you can monitor how well you are doing. These numbers can tell you if what you are doing at home is working.
Make sure your dentist or hygienist is telling you these numbers on every visit. If they are not doing it or sharing the numbers, ask them! Chances are they will be happy to see you take an active role in monitoring your dental health.
The hydrofloss can be a great part of your home care routine. It only makes sense to give yourself the greatest possible chance of having a healthy, bright smile.
Are there other things that can help too? Yes, you can read about many of them in the book: What You Should Know about Gum Disease.  Maybe you can pick up a copy at a local bookstore or ask your dentist for one. It is an easy read and gives you a lot of information that can really help you to keep a healthier set of teeth for a lifetime of good service and smiles.
