Family Wide Bad Breath Can Be A Disaster

December 30, 2012 by david

Bad breath affects both our professional and personal relationships.

It can be harder to form and keep relationships, as well as making business deals or even networking and forming contacts.

stoppingbadbreath-2.jpgThis is a problem that most of us have a desire to overcome.

Family wide bad breath is a topic that I cover more in depth here: (including what can be done about it)

Bad Breath and Life…

August 29, 2011 by david

Bad breath and life

I found a post on a site called: “The Hindu” It was entitled, “Proper Dental Hygiene Usually Gets Rid of Bad Breath”.

I do take issue with the article.  I think that whoever wrote it tried to construct a conclusion that may not be accurate and could lead to some damaging conclusions as well as a poor state of mind for victims of halitosis.

What I think is odd about the article is that there are little one sentence quotes like this one:

““In my examinations, the causes have been in the oral cavity 86 per cent of the time,” said Sigrid Weigel, a Berlin—based dentist who offers consultation on bad breath.”    full article

The author of the article goes on to construct, what appears to be, his own conclusion.

What Dr. Wiegel says may actually be true, but the rest of the article seems a bit strange to me.

If conquering bad breath was ONLY about better dental hygiene there would not be so many people affected by it.

This is similar to the many misconceptions about gum disease.  It is a big problem and many people have no idea that it affects / includes them.  Many think that if they brush and floss they are safe from this problem.  This is simply not true.  If it were true, then it would be unreasonable that 75% of the population suffers from some form of gum disease.

Most dental professionals agree with that 75% figure.  You can ask any dentist or hygienist and they will, generally speaking, confirm this point.

Article titles like the one quoted above from The Hindu, may actually be damaging to people who are truly suffering from bad breath.  It reinforces the [false] idea that it is 100% their fault, 100% of the time.

We do not always control the oral bacteria that we inherit from our parents or care taker when we are babies.

Having said that, there are certainly things that can be done to control or mitigate bad breath.  Some solutions are better than others.

What products we use makes a difference.   These starter kits contain the ‘right’ ingredients in my view.  (Disclaimer, that link goes to my ecommerce store).

If you are looking for some money saving coupons that go to a place that sells similar products, click here.

One item the author of that article is clearly unaware of is tonsil stones.  If you have them and they are the source of bad breath,  the best dental hygiene practices in the world are not going to help get rid of that smell until the stones are removed.

What is the moral of this story?   Please do not fall into the trap of thinking that proper dental hygiene is the only viable solution to getting rid of bad breath.  Sometimes there is more to the story.  Implying otherwise, could lead to a number of problems for the victim of bad breath.

There is a free book about getting rid of bad breath.  Click here  for it.

* This post speaks in general.  For specific questions about your own unique dental health situation, please ask your doctor or dentist for those answers.

Have Bad Breath? You Can Do Something About It!

May 8, 2011 by david

Get Rid of Bad Breath

Bad breath is something that is not well tolerated by most people.  You hear the complaints all of the time.  Yet, those complaints are seldom made to the offending party.

Since this problem is generally one that a person is unaware of, not telling them virtually guarantees the problem will continue.  We get used to the smell of our own breath and if it is bad, there is often little chance of finding out unless someone tells us.

We often think that bad breath is a problem that others have.  For the above mentioned reason, we may seldom consider ourselves as a candidate for having bad breath.

Halitosis can be situational or chronic.  Situational would be the smell you have on your breath after drinking coffee or alcohol.  Chronic is generally that caused by the bacteria in our mouths.  Each person may have a different population of bacteria.  Some are relatively benign, while others cause bad breath and possibly other dental health issues.

Here Is What You Can Do

It is beneficial to recognize that other people have this problem too.  Many people are in this boat.  Since most researchers and dental professionals believe that the majority of chronic bad breath is caused by bacteria in the mouth, it would be helpful to learn how to reduce that bacteria.

It is not really possible nor practical to get rid of bacteria in the mouth completely.  Therefore, your mind set might shift to one of reducing the ‘bad’ bacteria and supporting the good bacteria.

Reducing the Bad

The ‘bad’ bacteria are often anaerobic in nature.  It is their waste secretions that contain the chemicals that our nose identifies as bad breath.   Acidic foods and drinks cause these little beasts to grow more rapidly.  Therefore, balancing our mouth pH after eating or drinking is something we can do to help the situation.

The bad bacteria also enjoy a lack of oxygen.  They can avoid the oxygen by hiding in places like the folds of our tongue or underneath plaque.

Using an oxygenated mouthwash and \ or toothpaste can be beneficial. Oxygen tends to stop them from secreting their sour waste products.  If the same toothpaste or mouthwash is pH balanced, so much the better!

Helping the Good to Thrive

“Good bacteria” and “bad bacteria”, we have heard those terms before.  The truth is that we have developed a symbiotic relationship with some types of bacteria.  Most people have heard about the good bacteria in our gut that need to be replenished when we take antibiotics.  The same principle applies to our mouths.  By colonizing our mouths with good bacteria, there is less room for ‘bad’ bacteria to take root and build a colony.

Just like their are probiotics for our gut, there are also probiotics for our mouths too!

So you see, there really are things we can do to take care of our bad breath after all!

Halitosis – What Is Halitosis?

December 27, 2010 by david

I thought I would make a video to talk about halitosis – a.k.a. bad breath.

Here is the video, let me know what you think about it, by leaving a comment below:

https://www.TherabreathCoupon.com

https://www.ToBeInformed.com/bbbook – Free digital book on bad breath..

Bad breath or halitosis is a problem that effects millions of people around the world.

Sometimes it is merely a ‘situational’ bad breath – perhaps brought on by eating onions, garlic or some other type of food or beverage.

However, many times it is of a chronic nature.  This is the situation for those in the video at https://www.tobeinformed.com/StopBadBreath

As you can see, bad breath can be a problem in all aspects of life. Family members may even complain or keep a distance.  That would be a bad feeling for all involved.

Others may find that they suffer professionally. It would be easy to imagine why.

Therefore, for those who suffer, it is important to find a solution.  Covering or masking the symptoms of bad breath tend to be VERY temporary measures.

While it may be true that it is impossible to get rid of all the bacteria that produce bad breath, perhaps controlling the population of those bacteria would have a beneficial effect.

This is why I like the therabreath line of products which includes mouthwash, toothpaste and more.  These products are oxygenated and pH balanced and in theory, should be helpful in controlling the anaerobic bacteria that help to cause this type of problem.

Judging by what is said on their website plus my own understanding of how the products work and why they are better than other products, they have been able to help millions around the world.  Now that is a great thing to have happen.

The free digital resource on fighting bad breath above is worth the read. There is an awful lot of good information in there about what the problem really is and what you can do about it.

You can also read more about that particular brand of mouthwash.

BreathRX and Fighting Bad Breath…

July 22, 2010 by david

BreathRX was founded by Dr. Bill Dorfman to conquer a very widespread problem called oral malodor. This is commonly referred to as bad breath or halitosis. The BreathRX system involves three products: toothpaste, a tongue scraper and a mouthwash.

The Problem

Many people are unable to detect their own bad breath. A human being can get used to the smell of his own oral cavity and not even notice it. The problem is that others can notice it and have a strong reaction.

Most of us have had the experience of trying to avoid or escape a conersaton with a person who has a strong breath problem. It can be an unpleasant experience to be face-to-face with someone suffering such a problem. Therefore, we all hope that we are not the person with bad breath.

As it is difficult to tell if we, as individuals, are suffering (and causing others to suffer) we definitely would like a way to know if we are suffering. The best way is to ask someone close to you who will be honest. If that is not an option, here is an online breath test that could help you to determine if you have this issue.

The Cause

In most cases, the release of Volatile Sulfur Compounds from build up of bacteria on the tongue and back of the the throat is responsible for this problem. This is why many dentists will recommend tongue scraping in addition to using a special oral rinse or toothpaste. BreathRX is one kind. Another is Therabreath. You can download your free report on bad breath here – https://www.tobeinformed.com/bbbook/ This report will help you fully understand the cause as well as what you can do to eliminate the problem.

What if Someone Else Has the Problem?

The good news is that in most cases bad breath can be eliminated so there is no reason for you or the people that you interact with to suffer from this problem. However, you may have a colleague of friend that you have to interact with who may have this problem. You may not feel that you are close enough to this person to tell them they have the problem.

In this case there is an anonymous way to tell someone they have bad breath. You can utilize this method: click here. If you are in a situation where you are not close to the person and there is no other way to let them know, this may be helpful to both you and the person. In the end, it may be the only humane and embarrassment free way to let someone know.

Finally, you can use Breathrx or you can click here for additional information on conquering this problem.

Notes on Bad Breath…

November 20, 2009 by david

There is an email group that I am a part of. I was surprised when the discussion turned to bad breath.

I was surprised because I realized that I had never told them about the coupons I had for oral health products via therabreath.

Therefore I sent them off a little email and told them that they could find a free e-book on how to defeat bad breath at tobeinformed.com/bbbook

Looks like many of them decided to download that book. But the coupons mentioned should not be overlooked.

Chronic Bad Breath – Fight it Naturally?

Response

The gum tissue is not the only place these anaerobes can live. If your have a tongue with excessive fissures or grooves, this could be a problem as well.

At any rate, there may be some probiotics for the mouth that you could look around for.

I suspect, but can’t prove, that xylitol gum, may help to shift the kind of bacteria that are in your mouth.

I’ve been asked that a few times but I don’t sleep with my mouth open. This is really becoming a mystery to me David, everyone that I speak to tells me that now my gum disease has gone that I should be fine in the mornings and when I drink but that is not the case. It’s becoming frustrating to say the least as it is really affecting my life.

Ok, got it.

If this is the case, then you should know that the cause of gum disease and bad breath are very similar. Anaerobic bacteria.

The alcohol dries the mucous membranes of your mouth which create a natural barrier to the growth of the bacteria. When dry, that protection is lost. The bacteria then multiply rapidly, And they produce VSCs (Volatile Sulfur Compounds) This creates the bad smell.

You are correct that keeping your mouth moist should help to cut down on the bacteria growth.

You may also be sleeping with your mouth open / breathing through your mouth – both will also cause your mouth to dry – which could help to explain why you notice it more in the morning.

Naturally Fighting Bad Breath

October 26, 2008 by Dave

Question:

Hi David,

Many thanks for your response, I really do appreciate you looking at my mail. I’ve seen the Therabreath website before and have read plenty on it, sounds like a great product but I am preferably looking for a 100% natural solution rather than having to use specialist products.

I’m hoping that as this wasn’t a problem for me before then I can get my mouth back to a place where I can sustain good oral health and have no odor without being a slave to a product that I have to obtain by mail order.

Do you think is achievable? Or do you believe that the bacteria imbalance that has occurred in my mouth is irreversible? Further to this another major ambition is to be able to have a drink without smelling terrible, do you think this is also achievable?

Thanks
Clayton

Answer

Hi Clayton,

Well, I really think that the Therabreath products are your best choice but if you do not want to rely on a product that you have to reuse:

The best I can come up with is this: https://tobeinformed.com/breathinfo

It is based on using things you should have already have at home.

You could try https://tobeinformed.com/ora-md – it is more natural, using essential oils – but again you would have to reorder from time to time.

Xylitol gum might help to shift the kind of bacteria you are facing. But again, you would have to buy the gum.

I hope you find what you are looking for with the first link above.

Please keep me posted on what you find and what works for you!

Bad Breath: I Want to Kiss My Girlfriend in the Morning!

October 25, 2008 by Dave

Question:

Hi,

I have a few questions with regards to halitosis or bad breath for which I have scoured the internet for an answer but as yet have not found a satisfactory response.

I have a specific situation at present which I am struggling to control. Firstly my halitosis is not chronic and for much of the time is not a problem.

The only time I seem to have a problem is first thing in the morning or when I drink alcohol.

Most of the time I still have a white coating at the back of my tongue and I used to automatically associate this with bad breath but it seems that this is not always the case. Is that correct?

Is there anything I can do to remove this as I find it quite unsightly.

Now I didn’t used to have this problem but I believe that some time in my mid to late twenties (I am now 32) I had gingivitis . T

he reason that I think this is I have some reduction of my gums around a couple of my teeth. This went undetected for a number of years as I didn’t suffer any bleeding and my gums appeared healthy.

However after a friend told me that I had malodor from my mouth whilst we were having a drink I decided to visit a dentist. There they diagnosed gum disease and changed my whole oral routine.

Whereas I used to just brush twice a day with a manual toothbrush I now brush twice a day with an electric toothbrush, floss daily , use a tongue scraper and use mouthwash twice a day (used to be dentyl but I have just changed to retardex).

I also now drink much more water daily (anything from 4-6 pints) as well as eating fresh fruit daily (is it true that apples and bananas have a negative effect on one’s breath?) It is now 5 or 6 months since I first saw the dentist and my breath has definitely got better with my new oral hygiene.

As mentioned though I still suffer with morning breath to some degree (it is not as bad as it has been in the last few years but nowhere near as good as it used to be up to my mid to late twenties) and I still produce a bad smell from my mouth when I drink alcohol. ]

As my gum disease has cleared up my dentist has advised me to consult my doctor or an ear, nose and throat specialist as they say that there is no reason why I should have any kind of malodor at all now.

Is this correct or is there a possibility that this smell that I cannot get rid of is the legacy of gingivitis which went untreated?

Furthermore is there anything I can do get rid of it? I long to be able to kiss my girlfriend in the morning or go out with friends again for a quiet drink. These are things that I’ve had taken away from me which I desperately want back.

I apologize for the number of questions, if it is your policy not to answer so many questions then I understand. However any advice, help or direction would be greatly, greatly received.

Many thanks,

Clayton – Last name removed

Answer:

Hi Clayton,

Thanks for writing in.

Yes, of course gum disease can contribute to bad breath.

Apples and Bananas have sugars in them that can feed bacteria. The apples and bananas themselves cannot cause bad breath but when the bacteria get the sugars they may reproduce wildly – causing an abundance of bacteria that can then produce the foul smelling odors.

However, there are lots of foods that contain a variety of different kinds of sugars, so this is not limited to apples and bananas.

I’m not familiar with the kind of mouthwashes you mentioned.

Since your main goal is to be kissable in the morning again, read this article:

https://www.therabreath.com/morning-breath.html?AffID=2296

Alcohol can dry the mucous membranes of your mouth and this can also cause a proliferation of bacteria as your saliva has natural chemicals to kill the bacteria.

I don’t think there is anything unusual about anything you wrote. In fact, it sounds fairly typical to me.

Read the above article and other articles on the same site : Click Here and I think you are going to find a lot of answers to your questions and that it will all make sense to you.

Good luck,
