Truly A Problem
Gingivitis is a serious problem. This is primarily because it can easily advance into moderate or advanced gum disease. This can cause you to lose teeth and cause the expense of replacement implants or dentures.
In addition, as most people have heard by now, gum disease is suspected to contribute to a variety of other diseases such as heart disease, strokes, low birth weight babies, perhaps even Alzheimer’s as well. There are other suspected connections between gingivitis / gum disease and other diseases.
The Same Disease
Gingivitis and gum disease are really the same disease, they are simply different stages of that disease. And you should definitely be aware of this problem.
Unfortunately, as many as 75% of people have some form of gum disease. This is the official excepted statistic, you can verify that with any dental professional. Additionaly, the problem is complicated by the fact that most people that have a gum disease issue, are unaware of it.
Why You Need to Know About This Problem
Many times, they do not learn of it until gum tissue has been lost and they are advised that they need advanced treatments by their dental professional. Hygienists, see the evidence of gum disease in their patients’ mouths every day.

Of course, you want to check with your dental professional, but I also believe that you have to take ideas to them and see what they say. There are things like xylitol and the Hydro Floss, that can be useful to helping you regain and maintain your dental health – that your dentist may not have told you about.
Some essential oil blends can be helpful in killing / controlling bacteria as well. But be forwarned, although helpful, it is the daily mechanical disruption of plaque that is going to help you the most.
Many people are surprised when they find out that they have gum disease. It is very common. They, like myself, are shocked because they brushed and flossed religiously.
That is the point! If brushing and flossing were enough, then so many people (up to 75%) would not have some form of gum disease.
Now, brushing and flossing IS important and you should not stop, but if you within the 75% then you do need more.
