Gum Disease Is A Serious Problem

Gum disease is, of course, the biggest reason that people lose their teeth.   I have found it very strange that some people will lose one or more teeth get dentures or implants and never even understand that the reason they lost their tooth or teeth was due to gum disease.

Since they do not know why they lost their tooth or teeth, it stands to reason that the others are in danger for the same reason.  A little bit of knowledge in this regard is really power.    There are truly real, objective ways to measure and keep an eye on the health of your gums.  I’m referring to the periodontal pocket measurements.   It is very important that you know where each tooth stands in regards to these numbers.

Few people understand this concept, but it can make a big difference in regards to your ability to keep your teeth for a lifetime of good use.   If this turns out to be the case, you will also get to miss out on the cost and pain of extractions and implant insertions.   Wouldn’t that be best?
It is my wish that more people obtain this information.   It is my wish that more people can develop the understand and find out what they need to mitigate or stop this destructiveness of this disease.

Each human body is different, of course.  There is not a one size fits all approach.  But knowing your numbers as mentioned above will give you a guage to know if what you are doing at home is working.   If it is not, you will know that you need to add something else to your routine.  Then you can check the numbers again on your next office visit.   When you get to that magic place of  pocket depths of 3 millimeters and below everywhere in your mouth, generally speaking most dental practitioners would say your gums are healthy.  Being at that point means that the bacteria are not able to accumulate in numbers great enough to destroy tissue and bone.

That is what gum disease is essentially,  it is the destruction of tissue and bone.   This is the cycle that manifests as tissue loss (gum recession) loose teeth and finally teeth or a tooth that falls out.  With a little knowledge you can do a lot to prevent this from happening to you.

Gum disease is a serious problem, please pay attention and do what you need to do to take care of yourself and your family.
