I recently had my eyes examined and the doctor said my vision had improved.
My prescription was reduced by a quarter diopter in each eye. Nothing amazing I guess, but vision usually goes the other way, doesn’t it?
Anyway, I told the doctor that it might have had to do with the fact that I had been making blueberry smoothies frequently.
He said that the blueberries could account for an improvement in retinal performance but would not make the visual acuity better.
I can definitely report that the blueberries improved my night vision with colors at night becoming crisper and seemingly sharper too.
Blueberries are cousins to Bilberries. Bilberries were used in WWII by the English bomber pilots to be able to see at night in bombing missions over Germany.
I ran into an elderly gentleman of about 74 or so, he said his younger brother (younger by about 2 years if I remember correctly, had just started to need reading glasses.
He said that his brother began drinking bilberry tea and the need for reading glasses disappeared!
Seems to me that there is something to this blueberry, bilberry thing. I wonder if the phytochemicals in the two could help prevent degenerative eye diseases as well.
