I also a patient with macular degeneration with retina tear and retina haemorage since 2002. My vision of the left eye is distorded due to the torn retina. There is no treatment for this and what my dr suggest me to take anti-oxidant and herbs supplement for eyes. I am taking billberry, lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin c and multivitamin daily. Improvement of vision is definitly not possible according to my doctor and the vitamins would help to maintain and stabalize the condition from getting worse.

The course of treatment would depend on the type of macular degeneration that this person has been diagnosed with. If it is dry macular degeneration, there are no treatments available that will stop the progression of the disease, but there are things that can be done to slow the disease. AREDS is the recommended course of action for this version.

With wet macular degeneration (the more severe kind), there are several anti-VEGF drugs available such as Lucentis, Avastin and Macugen which halt the progression of the disease and in some cases reverse its affects.

Given that drusen was found, it is more likely that you have the dry version of the disease.
