Why Don’t You Just Go To Dental School?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

A person wrote to me recently and seemed to be berating me for not being a dentist because I talk a lot about dental health. He questioned the quality of my book – which it appears he has never read.

He asked me, “Why don’t you just go to dental school”?

So I thought I would address that question a bit, because it looks like now and in the future, there will be people who will want to know who I am and what I’m about.

I hope this will help to shed light on it:

I learned the basic life sciences as a chiropractic student. However, I’m not a chiropractor. You could say that I’m a chiropractic school drop out. I don’t mind…

I’m not licensed or credentialed in any way, shape, or form and I have never claimed to be nor would I dare to claim any title or credential that I’m not entitled too. I do not put letters after my name. I’m a layman with his own mind and proud of it.

I left chiropractic school with perhaps 1.5 to 2 years left before graduation. I was the student body president at the time. I left for a variety of reasons. One reason was that I was disturbed by my peers and what they really cared about – making money and getting through school. They weren’t focused on patient care and health. Many of my teachers did not have my respect either – though some certainly did.

Because of my background in the life sciences, I was able to recognize that my dentist was not acting in my best interest.

I started doing my own personal investigation and I realized that there is a lot of information that many professionals don’t bother to tell their patients. Perhaps they are unaware themselves? In either case, the net effect is the same.

She could have told me about things like the Hydro Floss , xylitol and other lower cost alternatives to her expensive treatment that probably would have needed to be repeated later.

[I have to add that I respect professionals in all fields. I would like to work in the spirit or cooperation with ethical and caring professionals. No matter what sampling of the population you take, there are good and bad people - that is unavoidable.]

My book is excellent and quality. A periodontist, a dentist, two medical doctors, and a dental hygienist have seen fit to endorse my book.

There are many ways that professionals are restricted. Some is financial, some is by peer pressure. Then there are peer review boards, state boards and other governing bodies. The fear of blacklisting looms large over many scientific and medical researchers.

Some professionals have dared to come out with greater truths about various health related things- but very few when you consider the total numbers. Many others simply want a big paycheck and that is their focus.

I’m over 40 and I do not wish to go back to school at this point. The cost is expensive and locks you in to the need to open a practice and make money the same way most professionals in these fields do. There is nothing wrong with that. What I’m currently doing is different from that.

I will say that whatever you are doing and whoever you are and in whatever field you are operating within – if you don’t value the best interest of your client, patient, or other people in general, then perhaps there is a problem. Looking inside yourself is the only way you will find the right answers to that. Only you can police what you really think and do. No one else can effectively do that.

I hope that answers your question?

When Do You Use The Hydro Floss?

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Question:

David,

I hope you received my last email. I did get your book and I am using the hydrofloss. It works terrific and your book is great.

I have a question. Do you brush you teeth first and then use the hydrofloss? I have been using the hydrofloss first then flossing & brushing.

Thanks again for your book.

Lynn

Answer:

Hi Lynn,

Great question. I use the Hydro Floss once, then I brush and floss and use the perio-aid and then I hydrofloss again it again…

Since brushing and flossing are for breaking up the plaque, you want that bacteria out. That is why I hydrofloss again at the end.

Once the plaque and bacteria is loosened up, you don’t want it floating around in your mouth. Therefore, I also use the hydrofloss at the end of my routine.

Hope that answered it.

David

Lynn’s Reply:

Thanks for replying so fast. That sounds like a good way to do it. I know my mouth feels so refreshed after using the hydrofloss.

Can the Hydro Floss Be Used with Baking Soda?

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Dear David,

I am someone who has advanced periodontal disease and who has been getting some really good results from flooding my pockets with salt and baking soda using a dental syringe. An oral irrigator would be better for getting the salt/baking soda solution into the pockets but I have a question as to whether this kind of solution would be bad for the hydro floss oral irrigator. Do you know if it is possible to use a salt/baking soda solution in this irrigator without harming it?

I did read on a review about the hydro floss oral irrigator that a man said that he was putting hydrogen peroxide into the water and that after using the irrigator 200 times the peroxide damaged the motor. I haven’t read anything about salt and baking soda.

Thank you,
Brenda

Hi Brenda,

I do not think you can put baking soda into the Hydro Floss.

Instead, you could use Aktiv Oxigen compound – this will not hurt the hydrofloss as you only put 8 drops in.

Here is a link to the compound:

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Hydromagnetics – How Does it Work?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Adrianne wrote:

Hi Dave,

I found your video on youtube, great info. I was wondering if you can just explain a little bit about ‘hydromagnetics’?

Thanks,
Adrianne

Answer:

Hi Adrianne,

What makes the Hydro Floss so valuable when compared to other irrigators is the fact that it uses hydromagnetics to achieve the goal of superior reduction of plaque build up in between office visits.

There have been two studies conducted on this efficacy in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Read more about one of the studies on the hydrofloss.

The way that I understand it is that there is a charge placed on the minerals in tap water when they pass by the magnet in the handle of the HydroFloss Oral Irrigator. This charge makes it easier to remove the bacteria and plaque that contribute to gum disease.

Adrianne, please let me know if that answered your question. If you want you can use the comment function below.

Thanks for asking this question, it is a good one!

Tartar Reduction with the Hydro Floss

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

[Editors Note: The word 'calculus' and the word 'tartar' are synonymous (have the same meaning)]

There was a study that demonstrates the greater reduction in tartar between office visits when using the Hydro Floss Oral Irrigator

Since I’ve taken to the habit of quoting this study done on the use of magnetic devices in conjunction with oral irrigation, I thought I better make sure I didn’t misquote or misstate anything.

Therefore, I purchased a copy of a study published in the May 1993 issue of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. I purchased my copy from the Blackwell-Synergy website.

The title of the study is The Effect of Oral Irrigation with a Magnetic Water Treatment Device on Plaque and Calculus. (ISSN 0303-6979)

Quote from the study: ” The measurements of the group using an irrigator with a magnetic device showed a 44% greater reduction in calculus volume p<.0005) and a 42% greater reduction in area (p<.0001) over the group using an unmagnetized irrigator.”

Of course, they don’t mention in the text of the study what magnetized irrigator they used, however it is still revealed within the study.

On page 2 of the published article which is page 315 of The Journal issue mentioned above, there is a diagram. At the top of the diagram it is clearly printed: Hydrofloss Research Project

The study seems to validate what my experience and that of others has already shown us: The Hydro Floss works!

Therabreath is the Best Place to Buy a Hydro Floss

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

The Hydro Floss is a powerful device for oral hygiene. I have personally utilized it to get and it was the first tool I found for fighting gum disease. After about five months of use, I found that it had stopped my gums from bleeding during routing dental exams and cleaning.

Unfortunately, my gums had been infected for years and my care provider failed to tell me that I needed to be doing something different, that I had gum disease and that it was serious. I had gone along all of those years thinking that it was ok for my gums to bleed. My question has always been: Why didn’t my doctor tell me what to do about this problem?

There is no good answer for that question. I wish that there was.

I spent a lot more money on the Hydro Floss than I had to. Because of the job it did, it doesn’t really matter that it cost me more. But I would like to save your from the additional expense.

When I bought one, it cost about one hundred and twenty dollars. Now, I am going to tell you how to get one for about ninety eight dollars. Plus you will be able to get free shipping and a free bottle of Aktiv-Oxigen drops thrown in.

These drops make the gum cleaning capability of your Hydro Floss even stronger. This is because the oxygen in the drops works to stop the anaerobic (oxygen avoiding) bacteria in your mouth. You can follow the instructions on the bottle or put about 8 drops in the reservoir of your Hydro Floss before each use. Check with a doctor or pharmacist before proceeding.

So, how do you get this wonderful tool called a Hydro Floss and get it for less, plus get free shipping and the free bottle of Aktiv-Oxigen drops? Very simple. You can go over to Therabreath.com and use this special coupon code: A-PER10.

What you do is put the Hydro Floss in your shopping cart and just below, on the right hand side of the shopping cart, you will see a place to put your coupon in. There is where you enter the coupon code: A-PER10.

The good news is: if you are in America, this coupon code will work for you. The bad news is: if you are anywhere else in the world, it will not work for you. If that is the case, come over to my website and I will help you find a Hydro Floss for your part of the world.

Please note that the US FDA has not evaluated statements in this article about the Hydro Floss. And, if you have gum disease or any other health condition, or think you might, contact your dentist or doctor for diagnosis, advice and treatment. Another Hydro Floss Success Story

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Just to keep you up to date on my situation

I started again on the hydro floss – just once a day no more – and this time at right angles to the gum line – using an ordinary mouthwash with dashes of tea tree oil.

First day was very bloody. I then used Vogel toothpaste on my sonic brush -threw away the ’spinning jenny’ just a gum massage and light brush twice daily. Mouthwash is Listerine – the one for gums and teeth – stings like hell at the moment!!

Second day – much better less blood

Then I found the xylitol – it is called ‘Perfect sweet’ over here 100% pure and on the third day I ate plenty of it (also taking vit c plus calcium.)

This morning – first time ever hydrofloss with no bleeding

I found the xylitol in a shop called Holland and Barrett – but it is marketed overall in the UK as a Health food – (I can see the price soaring) I think there probably is a fantastic marketing opportunity for toothpaste /mouthwash with say a predominant bicarb / xylitol mix plus essential oils -in the UK – and I would be happy to be part of it cos it does work. dont know how to go about it though!!

Anyway I am born again thanks to you and I am going to try and keep the very loose tooth going and see what happens. It was a pleasure to speak to you – I have found you ad you are a ‘guiding light’

The Hydro Floss Oral Irrigator Worked for Me and Has for Others Too

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Why do dental professionals tell us that up to 80% of adults suffer from some form of gum disease? I feel like I’ve been misinformed in regards to what it takes to get rid of gum disease or prevent it in the first place. Gum disease is a serious problem, it can cause a person to lose some or all of his teeth. Yet, so many people walk around oblivious to the fact that they have gum disease.

Sometimes the professionals that we rely on for our dental care don’t always tell us what we can do to stop or prevent gum disease. Those same people are ready to provide expensive treatments when things get really bad. That age old saying, ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ seems so apropos in regards to gum disease.

When my hygienist and dentist wanted to perform a procedure called a root scaling and planing is when I began to take serious notice of the problems that my gums were having. Up until then, I didn’t really think that I had gum disease.

I did not like the sound of the procedure they described to me and decided to do some research and find out if there was anything that could improve my condition without having to go through the treatment. One of the earliest and most effective things I tried was the Hydro Floss oral irrigator.

My results were so good with this instrument that the next time I visited the dentist they actually told me that I no longer needed that root scaling and planing treatment and that there was no longer any tartar build up under the gum line. To me, that was exceptional. I could also tell by the look on the their faces that they were a bit surprised too.

After a lot of follow up investigation, I realized that sometimes the professionals don’t always know best. For example, when I initially told my dentist that I wanted to get a hydro floss, she said that they were too expensive and that I should buy another, less expensive, oral irrigator instead.

I didn’t listen and I bought a Hydro Floss anyway. I’m glad I did. I would buy another one tomorrow if something happened to mine. It’s sturdy and rugged and really holds up. I’ve not had a single problem with it. I don’t know if other brands of irrigators could hold up as well.

It constantly amazes me when seemingly uninformed dentists attack the way the Hydro Floss is alleged to work. The theory involves something called ‘hydromagnetics’. I’ve heard and read about dentists who say this is all bunk and there is absolutely nothing to hydromagnetics and that it provides no additional benefit over regular irrigation.

I guess those dentists don’t read their profession’s literature very much. A study was published in the The Journal of Clinical Periodontology in May 1993. The study indicates that oral irrigators that use hydromagnetics do a superior job of tartar reduction over non-hydromagnetic irrigators. The differences noted were significant. There is only one oral irrigator that I have found that utilizes hydromagnetics and that is the Hydro Floss.

If you have or think you might have gum disease or any other oral health problem, visit your periodontist or dentist for advice, diagnosis and treatment. This article is for information purposes only.
