What we eat and some say when we eat are very important factors in our lives and to our health.  There are also those who believe that certain types of food should not be eaten together at the same meal, etc. There are many aspects to healthy supplementation. Because the body is complex, the subjects of nutrition and supplementation also complex. There is also much debate and disagreement among scientists, nutritionists and others who study these subjects.

A good physiology class can do wonders for your understanding of the human body.  Physiology and biochemistry go hand-in-hand and form a useful background when approaching the subjects of nutrition and supplements.

Many in the medical community still undervalue nutrition and its importance in our lives.  Remember, the first medicines were probably nothing more than foods that people already ate. "Let your food be thy medicine and your medicine be your food",  is a saying that many attribute to Hippocrates.

Some common, but wise advice on foods come from our mothers, "eat your vegetables".   I recently started eating more vegetables and I have to tell you that I feel good and my body feels much better.  I have been eating several pounds of lightly cooked vegetables per day.  Try it, it certainly can't hurt.

Consult with your physician before changing your food intake or trying a new supplement.

"You are what you eat" is that age old saying that seems to carry much truth.   For example, when I was in biochemistry class I remember learning that our bodies need a fresh supply of amino acids every 8 hours, otherwise we begin to cannibalize the needed material from our muscles. This isn't so bad for a normal person, but this could be an essential piece of knowledge for an athlete.  Still, I don't think I ever hear any athletes talking about this. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins.

Below you will find several links that will try to provide clues toguide you in your own personal attempts to solve the nutrition puzzle.
