with the side effects, both long term and short term that come from ADHD prescription drugs, you may want to consider more natural remedies as an alternative.

You have probably, at one point or another, stopped to ponder the number of ADHD prescription drugs and their side effects. Of course, the most well known are Adderall and Ritalin. However, there are others too.

The list of side effects that come with any drug, including ADHD drugs can be rather long. Here is a tip: the next time you pick up ANY drug at your local pharmacy, ask the pharmacist to print out a list of side effects for you. You might be VERY surprised! Some of the side effects can even be quite serious.

ADHD drugs usually fall into one of three categories:

1. Long acting stimulant

2. Short or Intermediate acting stimulant

3. Not a Stimulant.

The long acting drugs will include drugs similar to Ritalin LA, Metadate CD, Focalin XR, Daytrana, Concerta, Adderal XR, and Vyvanse. These drugs can affect your child for up twelve hours! As such, they are only taken once-per-day. In the case of Ritalin LA or Adderal XR, they come in a capsule form that you can open and sprinkle onto food. Daytrana is a patch that the child can wear just like a ‘quit smoking’ transdermal.

The short and intermediate drug prescriptions for ADHD include Ritalin, Adderall, Dexedrine and Dextrostat, as well as Methylin ER.
These drugs are sort of out-of-style as they need to be taken more than once per day. On the other hand, they are not available in generic forms which can be less costly.

Non stimulant ADHD drugs, the most well known being Strattera, are not prescribed as often as the stimulant drugs are. However, in the case of a child who suffers anxiety in conjunction with his ADHD issues, the doctor might prescribe Strattera. Drugs like this may also be an option for children who do not do well with the stimulant drugs.

The side effects for the stimulant drugs can often include headaches, stomach aches, sleeplessness (insomnia), eating disorders, withdrawing socially, vomiting and, with that, nausea. This is not the end of the list, just some highlights! As a parent, you might see the outward signs of the side effects such as your child being dull or even a bit less-responsive or the appearance of being in a trance!

The non-stimulants, like Strattera can have similar side effects too. Allergic reactions can also be a concern. As a parent, you certainly want the best for your child and that is why you both may benefit from considering an all natural alternative remedy.

One of the most alarming suspicions of researchers is the appearance of a greater risk of depression in adulthood for children who were prescribed ADHD prescription drugs. When you consider the side effects along with this long term potential danger, you might conclude that the risk is too great. The good news is that there are alternative remedies available that do not appear to have these side effects.

To recap, ADHD prescription drugs have a number of possible side effects. You, as a parent, definitely want your child to have a happy, successful and fulfilling life but you also want to deal with the symptoms of ADHD at the same time. Homeopathic remedies could offer a viable alternative. If ADHD can be treated safely with a more natural remedy, you might conclude that to be a better alternative than prescription drugs.

However, there are times when prescription drugs are necessary, you will have to balance rationality with your own personal research!

Scott Starsky has learned about ADHD natural remedy alternatives and thinks that you should too!

ADHD is a very common problem for children and the parents who raise them. Choose the gentler better way for your child and yourself. Prescription Drugs can have devastating side effects.

If you have realized this to be true, you are not alone: Current research indicates that available treatment choices for ADHD may not be the best. Medicating our children with various combinations of drugs may cause some unwanted side-effects and may not get to the root cause of the real issue with the children. Stimulants are the most frequent choice for many psychiatrists. However, they may only treat symptoms and do not target the real problems that need to be solved. Unfortunately, the longer term effects of these psycho-stimulants have not been determined and the subject is burdened with questions that remain unanswered and parents continue to wonder if they are doing the right thing for their child.

Here are a few reasons why you may want to consider an alternative path before providing your children with prescription only medications and perhaps consider more natural treatments for ADHD:

1. You may or may not know about the side effects caused by utilizing medically prescribed drugs for ADHD treatment include nervousness and anxiety, headaches, dizzy spells, abdominal pains, sleeplessness, a feeling of sickness and actual vomiting, manifestation of eating disorders, and even mental states that resemble true mental illnesses. Yet on the other side of the fence, homeopathic remedies might alleviate symptoms and not cause so many unwanted side effects, thereby preserving your child’s health.

2. Prescribed medications might be effective in reducing or eliminating the actual symptoms of ADHD. However, they might also suppress the natural development of your son’s personality. The prescription may be changing the way your child’s developing brain processes in such a way that natural curiosity and impulses, including creativity, may be stifled! Many famous people were able to get by without medication and found ways to cope with their own ADHD. You have probably heard of one or two such as Abraham Lincoln! It is likely that you cannot wait for your child to get better on his own, that is understandable. Perhaps a more natural approach will solve the behavioral problems without seriously altering your child’s brain chemistry.

3. Studies seem to indicate that those who took ADHD drugs as children may be prone to drug addictions later. Some ADHD meds are chemically very similar to methamphetamine! A more natural herbal remedy is not so likely to cause an addictive personality to emerge.

4. ADHD medication can be costly. Billions of dollars are spent annually for these drugs. This indeed feeds the profit margins of large pharmaceutical companies but may not be very helpful to your pocket book. ADHD natural remedies may be very useful without causing you to skimp on other areas of your budget as much as you might on prescription meds.

5. Another potential long-term side effect of prescription ADHD treatment is a vulnerability to depression and other psychological issues when children become adults. A more natural ADHD remedy is not very likely to have this effect on a person. We all want the best for our children. Therefore, caution, when it comes to the use of prescription medication to treat ADHD is warranted. Depression is not something that children should have to grow up to experience.

Next: Consider doing a little ADHD research of your own. In that investigation include more natural treatments so that you can see the pros and cons for yourself. If you can find your way to using a more natural approach, you may be able to avoid the far reaching side effects that many children have endured and continue to suffer with as adults. It is more humane and natural to use a natural approach to reduce symptoms such as hyper activity, strange behavior and concentration deficits because they are much less likely to put your child’s long term health in jeopardy.

Author: Scott Starsky writes about layman adhd research and how adhd natural remedies could be a better option for you and your child.

St. John's Wort - Is it good for depression? Or is that just bunk? You decide!

This plant has been used to stabilize mood levels. Some people choose it over anti-depressant medication. In Europe, it is a bit more widely utilized. US government agencies refute or minimize the alleged anti-depressive qualities of this plant.

Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that this natural plant has an effect on to produce a balanced mood and possible feelings of well-being – This from research conducted by Shelton, R.C and others.

It is most widely used as a natural treatment for depression. Again, most frequently in Europe. Most notably, it finds particular favor in Germany. Hypericum is the scientific name of the plant species. It is also called Klamath weed as well as Tipton’s weed.

Be forwarned that the National Center for Complementary and Alterntive Medicine, which is a division of the National Institute of Health feels from their testing that St. John’s Wort has minimal or no effect when compared with a placebo during testing. At the same time, other researchers have concluded that it does have an effect beyond placebo.

Need a little jump starter to kick bad breath, gum disease or similar types of dental health problems in the pants?

Aktiv Oxigen might be the key or if not, at least a helpful boost.

Here is how it may help.

1. oxygen is the bane of anaerobic (oxygen shunning) bacteria. These anaerobic bacteria use a special metabolism. The byproduct of this metabolism is acid, toxins, VSF (volatile sulfur compounds) and more harmful substances – some being harmful to your tooth enamel and gum tissue. Some directly cause bad breath and some cause it from the disease process it initiates in your mouth.

2. Providing oxygen to these little beasties actually messes them up. They are designed to work in low oxygen environments, when you add oxygen to their pathetic lives, it tends to either kill them off or cause them to revert to ‘normal’, ‘aerobic’ metabolism. The same end effect is achieved, they stop secreting harmful chemicals.

Can natural healing become your real friend and help you save big time on costs and trauma to your body - not too mention nasty side effects?

Sometimes, the pendulum swings too far to one side creating an imbalance in the way of things. So it is between the well established and powerful companies that manufacture and market prescription drugs and those who remember the old ways of natural healing or have rediscovered them. The powerful have become too powerful.

In ancient terms it is the tension and conflict that exists between the mechanists and the vitalists. Perhaps now the mechanists have become a bit too powerful. Some speculate that they have control even over government agencies that are designed to regulate such things. With such power, even questionable things can be officially ‘approved’. But is the research all that solid in the end?

As the counterpoint to this alleged tragedy, the vitalists persist. Despite efforts to obliterate them, the old ways, old remedies, old books, old lore is still passed down. In fact, many of the so called ‘modern’ ways are simply synthetic copies of isolated ‘active ingredients’ found in nature, mostly in plants.

As you can imagine, the natural remedies that live and grow in nature, in our forests, jungles, deserts and even in our own backyards, have trouble being recognized or even discussed by certain government agencies. It could be argued that our government has an obligation to study and validate natural ways of healing to save us health care dollars. Mother nature existed long before our current human power structure evolved and will be here long after it is gone. She never needed human kind’s or government’s approval in the first place. On the other hand, humans and even governments need mother nature. We are on a tiny planet in a vast universe. Mother nature is all that, and we, as humans, are puny in comparison.

The pendulum is due or getting close to the point where it has to swing back. As a result, those who have preserved and conserved the ancient healing methods like herbal remedies passed down to us persist. They are there. The knowledge is there. One merely has to look. Now days, that looking is getting easier and easier all of the time. The more greedy the current power structure’s components get, the more the old, natural ways of healing will rise again. In the end, people will turn to them as the cost of ‘modern’ treatment spirals beyond the reach of the majority of human beings.

On the other hand, there are folks who plain don’t really care about the current power structure, they just plain believe in the old and natural way of doing things. Some are extremely well versed in these natural methods. They follow that way because it just makes sense to them! Follow the links below to learn more about natural healing ways.

Leukemia, what do you do when the doctor's give up hope?

Question:

My 57 year old brother has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After chemo therapy treatments a transplant of my stem cells was done. we are 100% compatible. Everything went great and he actually went back to work two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it seems that the chemo therapy did not eliminate completely the cancer cells and now they are showing in a very aggressive way, 70% of his blood cells are blasts or cancer cells. Aggressive chemo is not longer possible.
Can you suggest anything?

Thank you so much,

Name withheld

Answer:

I’m sorry to hear of your brother’s troubles.

Of course, I advocate working closely with your physician. Chances are high that your doctor has not explored ALL possible approaches and avenues. They are unwilling to step beyond a certain point. I’m not saying anything bad here, it is just that when medicine fails us, especially when we are about to die or have a loved one that is and medicine has no further answers – we have no choice but to explore alternatives.

Again, you should not do anything without the approval or at least ok of your physician. But here are a few things I can almost guarantee your physician has not explored.

1. Here is a book that contains hundreds of natural cancer treatments that have worked for others. They also have hundreds of stories of those who successfully defeated their cancers. I guarantee you will find stuff in this book that your doctor hasn’t even considered in his dreams. Here is the link to learn more: http://tobeinformed.com/825/

2. If you need a scientific based approach or at least some ideas from someone who is scientifically trained get the book: How to Fight Cancer and Win – in this book you will learn of things that modern doctor’s either don’t know or don’t talk about.

3. Find the original Essiac formula on the Internet and start making your own Essiac tea at home. The story is that a nurse named Renee Caisse obtained this formula from native American Indians. Rumor has it that she cured thousands of people of cancer with this formula, many were considered ‘beyond hope’ by doctors.

4. Find a clinic in a city near you that does Ozone Therapy. This would be a clinic run by licensed medical doctors who have recognized the benefit of ozone therapy that is not recognized by the mainstream. Many have found this therapy to be very powerful.

5. There is a yahoo e-group that goes by the name of ‘ozone-therapy’ or something close to that. It is run by a doctor and you can ask questions about ozone therapy there.

6. Here are a few other resources to take a look at:

http://tobeinformed.com/cancer/books.html

On that page you will find a link to Bernie Siegel’s book, Love, Medicine and Miracles – get that book and anything else Bernie has published (videos, etc – it can give you hope.)

7. I have personally met someone who told me that she believed this spiritual practice cured her terminal cancer: http://www.falundafa.org

8. Don’t stop looking for answers.

Again, work with your physician and get his approval on anything you investigate before trying it. At least he can tell you whether it would hurt to try it or not.

Best wishes and please let me know how it goes for you!

Sincerely,

David,

I went to the periodontist and he wanted to do laser surgery. I purchased the hydrofloss along with the mouthwash and toothpaste from Dr. Katz. My gums look good and feel great. (My gums never were red or swollen and they did not bleed, that is why I was dubious about the surgery).

Of course I was not going to have the surgery because I heard from another dentist that it could cause more damage than what it is worth.

I called my perodontics office and ask if there was an alternative to sugery. They told me that if my pockets were more that 3 mm that I could not clean the pockets myself. I would need a dental hygienist to clean them every 3 months and that my pockets probably would not get any smaller but the hygienist could keep them much cleaner than I could.

They did not tell me about the hydrofloss but I heard it from a friend of mine who is a dental hygienist. That is how I learned about you.

Isn’t it strange they don’t want to tell you about using the hydrofloss?

I’m using the hydrofloss and it works great. I believe my pockets are much smaller and I am going to keep track of the sizes when I get my teeth cleaned next week.

Thanks for all the information about gum disease.

Response: Thanks Lynn! I dare to say that you are right on with this experience. Thank you for sharing. I hope that other’s can learn and benefit from what you have shared.

an article discussing who the first periodontist was...

Many people have often wondered, who was the first periodontist? Upon hearing this question, many other people have wondered, what is a periodontist? Well, we are going to discuss those questions and many more throughout the course of this article, to the best of our abilities concerning the documented evidence.

We know for a fact that periodontal disease has been a problem for people all throughout history. You see, as a specialty, periodontics – the study of periodontal disease, periodontitis, et cetera – has a very long and very rich history. That history spans the whole of civilization.

There is evidence that even back in prehistoric times, our ancestors had problems with their teeth. For example, people in the early Egyptian and Middle Eastern cultures had oral health problems. How do we know this? Well, for one thing, there is written evidence and skeletal remains which show the existence of periodontal disease.

In histories pertaining to ancient Chinese and Indian cultures, there exists evidence of periodontal diseases like scurvy. Within those same histories, there were actually pieces of advice pertaining to the importance of cleaning one’s teeth! The evidence piles up through history, from ancient Greek and Roman to Renaissance Europe. The diseases themselves were well described in the documents available, as well treatments and methods of prevention.

However, the first periodontist came quite a bit later – not until the early twentieth century, in fact. Now, it stands to reason that periodontists likely existed before this; they simply were not documented. They may have gone by a different title. Around about 1914, however, all available accounts seem to suggest that Dr. Grace Rogers may well have been the first practicing periodontist.

Given the long history of documented periodontal diseases and care, however, it only stands to reason that, in the equally long history of dentistry, other people must have practiced periodontology. We simply do not have the records of those possible forebears.
