I first tried the Cabridge Institute for Better Vision’s program over 2 decades ago if I remember correctly.

At one time, my prescription was -3.25 in one eye and -3.0 in the other eye.

Currently, I use a -2.25 correction for both eyes but according to the German optician I visited, I should be using a -2.5 (both eyes) pair of glasses. In Germany, you do not have to be an optometrist or medical doctor to prescribe prescription lenses. But you do have to be certified to do so.

My optometrist in the US suggested that my ideal correction should be -2.5 or -2.75.

However, you may wonder why I have not done better? I believe the reason is because I have not been Working The Program!

If you don’t do the exercises and relaxation techniques it is not likely that you will see any improvement.

Unfortunately, I am a busy person and I do not carve out the time I should each day to work an eye exercise program. Therefore, if you are going to attempt one, you should resolve to have the dedication, focus and perseverance to keep going before you spend your money. You should plan do work on this every day.

I hope that you will do better than I have!

* These are herbal, homeopathic or natural ingredient remedies for sale. There is a large catalog that you can search by symptom or by ingredient or by product name (if known).

For example. Angina is the medical term for chest pain. You could search the catalog by simply typing in the term “Angina” without the quotes.

ADHD is a condition that many doctors prescribe medication for. For a natural, gentler alternative do a search for “ADHD”. Or “attention deficit hyper activity disorder” or simply: ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)

There is literally an entire catalog of natural plant based / homeopathic / natural ingredient remedies. You can almost definitely find a product and / or information related to your needs.

* remember to always consult with a doctor before taking or trying any remedy. There are multiple reasons why you should do so. And remember: never be afraid to get a second opinion – it can literally save you from spending money you don’t have to and it could even save your life! The USFDA has not evaluated statements about products made on this site.

Plant Based Remedies – The More Natural Approach

- Less Side Effects

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons to choose naturally occurring plant (or phyto) chemicals and their healing properties are the terrible side effects of prescription medications. There are so many documented side effects to prescription meds that it is mind boggling.

We have all experienced or heard of the situation where someone had to change prescriptions because of the ‘side-effects’.

Some people get on additional prescription meds to counter the side-effects of the original drug. Remember the older woman who had so many pills to take everyday that she could not keep track of them all and needed a special system to know when and how to take which drug?

Dangerous drug interactions kill many more people than you might imagine every single year in hospitals. This shows that even the medical professionals have trouble preventing the problems that come from dangerous but overlooked combinations of drugs.

Next time you buy a prescription drug – ask for the list of side-effects from your pharmacist – don’t just go by the package insert, get them to print you the FULL list.

- Less cost

Plant based, ‘natural’ remedies are not isolated, synthesized and concentrated specific chemicals or ‘active ingredients’. One of the theories of natural healing is that natural phyto (plant) chemicals work in tandem to promote healing.

Contrast that with concentrated, isolated chemicals or ‘active’ ingredients that have been copied from plants and artificially recreated in a laboratory, mass produced and prescribed to you. It’s like processing food, all the ‘natural’ is gone!

Plant based remedies don’t need to recoup the costs of expensive studies, trials, mass marketing and law suits for dangerous side effects that were NOT discovered (or were ignored) before sending a drug to consumers!

Conclusion:

Life has become so complicated and it seems that we pay through the nose for solutions that might actually be less-than-ideal.

What if our world’s doctors and scientists actually focused on studying and using treatments that actually worked, that were simple, uncomplicated and didn’t cost millions and billions of dollars to produce?

How come people are able to help themselves with less expensive, natural alternatives AFTER the expensive, side effect riddled solutions that seem to be so expensive and cause even more problems to human beings did not work (or not as well)?

Have they been looking for answers in the wrong places?

Start healing, living and loving more naturally!

I was just reading an article the other day about the new round of weight loss drugs that big pharma is about to release. The article went on to talk about all of the undesirable side effects of weight loss drugs. Some of these side effects include increased blood pressure and heart rate, nausea, dizziness, sleeplessness. Not surprising, since most of them are similar to or related to amphetamines (speed drugs).

Government websites say things like, “these drugs are for short-term use only” and “should only be used by people with BMI (Body Mass Index)of over 30″.

It does seem that there is some caution being emphasized in using these drugs. There must be a good reason that the government says it is for ‘short-term use only’. That really should not surprise anyone. Have you ever heard of a prescription medication that did not come with a list of side-effects?

That brings me to the major point of this article. When I read the story about the weight loss drugs, I couldn’t help but think how blind we can be as human beings. It seems that we get into a certain mode of thinking and we have trouble getting out.

Complicate that with the notion that big companies are after big profits and it becomes even more understandable that we often get lost in a realm of short-sightedness.

Many of our modern prescription medications are isolated, synthesized and concentrated copies (with slight alterations to make it patentable) of naturally occurring plant chemicals! Therefore, many potent remedies, treatments and possibly even ‘cures’ could be growing in our back yards, our gardens or in a nearby wooded area or forest!

The problem is that most of us have no idea what plants do what and in what quantities we might need them. What they do and what healing properties they have is a complete mystery to us. Neither do we have the time to experiment or try them out either.

We rely on doctors to help us medicinally, but they seemed bound up in the world of pharmaceuticals and perhaps have lost sight of the knowledge that their predecessors had of plant herbs, tinctures, and medicinals.

What happened to all of the knowledge? Modern times are different but are they really THAT much different than the old days? We has all of this lost knowledge gone.

It may still be around, just a little bit harder to find. What if there was a list of plant based remedies that you could tap into any time you wanted to? That would be cool wouldn’t it?

As costs and side effects sky-rocket, will this knowledge and these plant based remedies make a come back?

By the way, I have to give my legal and medical disclaimer here, so bear with me for a moment:

This article is for information purposes only and does not intend to provide advice, diagnosis and treatment for any health problem whatsoever. If you have or think you might have a health problem of any kind, visit your doctor for advice, diagnosis and treatment. The USFDA has not evaluated statements in this article! Again, this is for information purposes only AND…

I am so thankful that I have my own brain and that I do not need to rely on the government or other ‘entities’ to tell me what is right for me!

Can OraMD really help your gums to become healthy again?

To explore this question a little deeper, let us consider a few questions.

First, what gives OraMd it’s power? According to the label, the ingredients include the essential oils of spearmint, peppermint and almond. This is a unique blend that the creator of this product believes will have the maximum impact on the bacteria that cause both gum disease and bad breath.

But, is there a precedent for the notion that essential oils can have an effect on the kinds of bacteria that cause these problems?

The short answer is yes – and we do not have to look very far to find that answer. Virtually everyone is familiar with a brand of mouthwash that is endorsed by the American Dental Association and that brand is Listerine. You may have heard of it…

Listerine has been used for well over 100 years. It was originally used as an antiseptic long ago. It was even used during the civil war!

Did you think Listerine’s power came from its high alcohol content? Many people do. But, a closer look at a bottle of Listerine will reveal something startling. In the ingredients you will find eucolyptol, menthol and thymol – essential oil derivatives. This is what gives this mouthwash its power. Considering that the ADA endorses it, there must be some clinically studied truth to the claims.

However, Listerine does have a high alcohol content and many people are turned off by that. That is understandable. With OraMD, you can practically avoid that effect because OraMD contains only the essential oils mentioned above.

Is it possible that you could come up with your own gum disease cure by mixing these oils on your own? Sure, anything is possible. But, will you get the mix just right? The creator of OraMD has already spent time figuring that out and did all the tweaks and experimentation for you.

There is also an extra-strength OraMD. Do you need the original or the extra-strength version? This is going to depend on you, the degree of your gum disease or gingivitis or bad breath issues, what you can tolerate, what you like, etc. Every human body is different and that reality extends to the oral cavity is what makes oral care complicated as well.

Will Ora Md help you to overcome your periodontal issues. Here again, it is impossible to guarantee such a thing because every situation and every body is different. But there are many testimonials on the OraMD site about how it has helped many people with their gum disease and bad breath issues.

OraMD may be helpful to you and therefore you can always try it out and get a refund if you are not satisfied with it. Therefore, there is really no risk in purchasing OraMD.

Interestingly enough, and many professionals will probably agree (just ask your periodontist!) that the daily mechanical breakup of plaque is very important. Therefore, those professionals may tell you that such a product may be helpful but you still should be brushing and flossing as well.

Here is the reason that the daily, mechanical break-up of plaque is so important in fighting gum disease and even in preventing cavities: The anaerobic bacteria that live under the plaque are shielded from oxygen. This allows them to reproduce quickly and because of the peculiar nature of their metabolism – they secrete acidic toxins onto your gums and teeth.

These secretions are thought to be the offensive agent that actually causes gum disease and bad breath! Therefore, in order to expose those bad bacteria to oxygen, you want to disrupt the plaque daily! Every day! Skipping a day does not work because it is the gap in time that allows the bacteria to rapidly multiply and create more damage.

Unfortunately, you can never completely rid your mouth of bacteria. And once, disrupted the plaque begins to form again immediately. Therefore it is a constant and ongoing battle to defeat gum disease / bad breath and prevent cavities. That is why we are told to brush and floss our teeth daily!

Now, getting back to those essential oils. Based on the explanation above, OraMD can be helpful in killing bacteria – but again, professionals are likely to agree that you should also be focused on the daily disruption of plaque!

This brings us to another important point. Dental professionals also tell us that up to 75% of people are suffering from some form of gum disease right now! That could include mild gingivitis all the way to advanced periodontal disease where you could be in danger of loosing some or all of your teeth.

One could speculate that if this is true, mere brushing and flossing, while of the utmost importance and certainly they should be continued daily, may not be enough to stop or prevent periodontal problems.

Could it be that ORAMD is the one item that pushes you over the edge to healthier gum tissue and to winning out over the statistics? Well, again, every human body is different and responds to gum treatments differently. Therefore, there is only one way to find if it will work for you.

Next: Read more about OraMD

Our pancreas is affected by diabetes – specifically, Type 2.Our body contains glucose found in the blood stream, which it gets from the sugar in food. Our body uses the glucose, but only when it goes into our blood cells and the insulin released by our pancreas converts it. Insulin production and utilization is difficult for someone who lives with Type 2 diabetes. There is a lot of glucose in the body, but your cells cannot locate them.

The American Diabetes Association has become very important when it comes to gathering critical information about this medical condition. With approximately 23.6 million citizens living with diabetes, America is an extremely unhealthy country. Over 90% of all patients with diabetes have Type 2.Most diabetics tend to be overweight and have relatives with the same condition. Too much glucose can cause serious, irreparable damage to internal organs and to the overall nervous system.

Diabetes and Your Life

If you have Type 2 diabetes, you need to live in a healthy manner. Living healthy and engaging in healthy practices will affect you tremendously. Two common examples of healthy routines include exercising and consuming healthy foods. Making sure that your glucose levels stay in the recommended range translates into being able to avoid complications in your health. A finger prick test is a common and reliable way to monitor your body’s blood glucose levels.

This test, according to physicians, is sufficient enough for glucose monitoring like the HbA1c test. The amount of glycated hemoglobin in your blood is determined by this HbA1c test, aside from it alerting you if you reach a high glucose level. Results of these A1c tests show that people with diabetes are at a seven percent level. The CDC reports that if one maintains their a1c levels at seven percent, they could reduce the possibility of risks as high up as forty percent.

Too Much Control

Recently, there have been medical studies that seem to indicate that maintaining A1c levels below 7% may be a bad idea after all. One of these studies, conducted at the Lancet and Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, has found that people who have median levels may be at a far greater risk of death, especially for those taking insulin. However, other tests have indicated that A1c levels of 7 percent is still perfectly healthy. Matt Davies, An accredited Endocrinologist, has stated that maintaining a 7% A1c level is healthy according to recent studies, but that physicians should always take the individual patient’s history into account prior to planning treatment.

Why A More Natural Alternative May Be Better:

Many of today’s prescription drugs are simply chemically altered copies or near-copies of naturally occurring plant chemicals (phyto chemicals). The ‘active ingredient’ has been isolated, removed, duplicated and put into a much more concentrated form.

The ‘concentrated form’ may not be as great for us as the original, natural form.

In addition, many of those who have studied natural healing believe that more natural plant chemicals come in forms that are healthier for our bodies with far less side effects.

Side effects of stimulant drugs can be potentially harmful to the body. Always ask your pharmacist for a list of side effects for any prescription drug that you purchase – you may be very surprised to see how long the list is!

This article discusses the possible drawbacks to an ADHD misdiagnosis and what kind of problems your child, and by extension, your family, will have in coping and getting along!

Attention Deficit Hyper activity Disorder (ADHD) has become the single most common diagnosis for children with problems concentrating in school or who consistently misbehave.

The medical treatment for this condition consists of prescribed doses of stimulants, which increase mental activity and slow down the impulsive outbursts associated with ADHD. However, it is estimated that this diagnosis is reached and medications are prescribed three times more often than is actually the case. Here, we will examine the misdiagnosis of ADHD and what it can mean to you and your family.

There are several problems associated with a misdiagnosis of ADHD. The first is that a child is often prescribed stimulants that are not necessary and carry the risk of serious health related complications. Taking these drugs when they are not needed can lead to heart disease, cause liver problems, create or enhance mental health problems such as anxiety disorder or depression, and much more.

The next issue is that a child who is misdiagnosed as having ADHD may not be receiving treatment for the real problem. Some things that can mimic the symptoms of ADHD include temporal lobe epilepsy, a form of epilepsy that causes “absence” seizures where it appears the child is simply daydreaming, depression, restless leg syndrome, learning disabilities, personality conflicts with a teacher, and even normal, high energy stages of childhood.

In all cases except that of this being a normal stage the child is going through, there are other medical and behavioral treatments and therapies that could eliminate the symptoms and address the child’s real problem without prescribing unnecessary stimulant medications.

Often, when a child is placed on medication for ADHD when it is not the real problem, the symptoms of ADHD go away, but so does the child’s personality. While this may be seen as an improvement to the behavior problems that led to the diagnosis, it actually harms the mental development of the child and inhibits the normal development of social skills that are needed later in life.

Many parents of children who have been misdiagnosed claim that their child is like a robot when taking the medication. He/she goes through the motions of every day life, but there is no spark or spontaneity to the child’s activities. These children often tend to play alone or to stop playing altogether.

Sadly, with so many homes where both parents have to work, these symptoms can go unnoticed for long periods. This means that the child often continues to take unnecessary medication for an extended time frame that allows for more damage to be done to the brain and organs of the developing child.

While ADHD is a valid developmental and behavioral disorder, there is not an empirical test that can positively determine whether a child does or does not suffer from it. The criteria for the diagnosis are all subjective and comparative, meaning that one person may look at a child and reach the diagnosis of ADHD while another sees a perfectly normal child. This leads to a large number of misdiagnoses of ADHD and harms a large number of children and teens each year. Learn about a little known ADHD treatment alternative.

If you have wondered about the side effects of prescribed stimulant medications, you are not alone. Such drugs are often prescribed to individuals with ADHD.

ADHD is considered to be a hyperactivity disorder. You may have noticed very impulsive behavior with the child or adult who is experiencing symptoms.

Often the problem is first noticed by parents and teachers during the preschool or elementary years. The average age for symptoms to be displayed is right around 7 years old.

For many suffering from this disorder, symptoms may disappear at around the time of adolescence. That being said, it can still persist into adulthood. Estimates are that about eight percent of children suffer form this problem. Surprisingly estimates tell us that about 3 to 4% of adults may be suffering from ADHD as well.

Prescribed Stimulants Affect the Brain

Frequently, a doctor will attempt to treat this disorder by prescribing a stimulant medication. Stimulants, like the popular Ritalin, affect the brain by increasing dopamine levels. Dopamine is a chemical associated with attention. When a doctor prescribes such a medication, he will be looking for just the right dosage. Typically, he will start with a lower dose and slowly increase it until the desired effect is obtained.

When a stimulant drug is not prescribed in this manner, it is possible that the brain can be flooded by dopamine, creating a feeling of euphoria (heightened well-being). When this happens, their is real potential for addiction. In fact, some stimulant prescribed drugs are chemically very similar to street methamphetamine.

One of the big questions in child psychology revolves around whether the use of stimulant type prescription medications for ADHD increases the risk for substance abuse in adulthood. Most studies suggest that proper use of a prescription does NOT increase the likelihood of substance abuse addiction later in life. However, it is believed that more research is needed to find a definitive conclusion – especially in regard to adolescents.

I spoke to a former user of Ritalin and he volunteered, without being prompted in any way, that former users of this medication would sometimes become addicted to crystal meth. It was not clear, however, if he was speaking from personal knowledge of individuals or simply repeating a theory he had heard.

When you consider whether prescription stimulant ADHD medications are right for your child, it is important to think about the potential problems that a prescription stimulant medication can bring.

Some of the side effects that have been reported with Ritalin and other stimulant medications include sudden death from heart attack. This is believed to only happen to those with preexisting heart defects. A doctor should insure that a child’s heart is not compromised before prescribing such a medication.

On the other hand, stroke and heart attack have been noted as possible side effects of this class of prescription drugs. In addition, increased blood pressure and heart rate have also been observed as a possible side effects.

There is the possible side effect of new or worsening behavioral problems with stimulant medications. There is also the possibility of increasing hostility on the drug. These, of course, are the opposite of what
the physician hopes to achieve with a stimulant drugs prescribed for ADHD.

At times, prescription medications are completely necessary and appropriate for treatment of ADHD symptoms. However, you may be wondering if there are alternatives to prescribed ADHD stimulant medications and other possible alternative treatments that may be a better choice for your particular child or even an adult that you know.

There are indeed cheaper alternatives to ADHD prescription drugs. However, these alternatives may not be for everyone, you should do your own research to determine if the potential benefits are appealing to you.

Sometimes prescription meds may be the only solution. However, in many cases this may not be the case and a less expensive natural alternative, with less side-effects may be the right thing for you and/or your child.

The use of prescription drugs alone is only one approach to solving the problem. The side effect list is not short and there is the possibility for long term side effects. The risk for depression as an adult appears to be greater for those who used ADHD meds as a child.

Some alternatives, which can often times be applied simultaneously include: dietary control, homeopathic remedies, behavioral therapy and trained relaxation techniques. With such approaches, especially in tandem, you may go beyond simply suppressing symptoms with a drug and even have the potential to reach the deeper cause of the problem.

If you are able to successfully resolve these deeper issues, then you may reach a point where prescription drugs are no longer necessary. Note: be sure to check with your physician before taking your child or yourself off a prescription medication.

Dietary control could be very helpful because you can remove aggravators of ADHD symptoms by simply eliminating certain food from the diet. Here are some of the food that have been suspected of contributing to ADHD symptoms: fried foods, food coloring, MSG and pasteurized dairy products. (Special Note: Those who utilize raw dairy often find that they do not have the problems or intolerance that can come from drinking pasteurized milk. A good resource for information on raw milk is RealMilk.com.

If you suspect that an item in the diet is contributing to ADHD symptoms, you can simply eliminate that item for a period of two weeks and carefully note any differences you might see. Keeping a food diary is often helpful in pin pointing foods that might be causing or adding to a problem. If you need help on dietary planning you can always consult a qualified nutritionist for helpful advice and information.

If you are lucky enough to find relief through symptoms just through diet alone, then you are very fortunate! As mentioned before, a combination of approaches may be beneficially when you seek to reduce the symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – or perhaps other diseases for that matter!

Relaxation techniques may also be helpful. Some possibilities include music therapy, aroma therapy, biofeedback training, meditation, massage therapy or perhaps long leisurely walks! Now some of these may or may not be appealing to your child, but if you are able to enjoy one or more of these along with your child, it may make it more palatable for him or her.

The fear of medicating your child is a valid one. You are definitely not alone if you fear the side effects of ADHD medication. Sometimes behavioral therapy can be helpful when done by a licensed psychologist. This type of therapy can actually help the child disrupt hurtful though patterns and develop better social relations with others. This can lead to much more fulfilling relationships as well.

You may also wish to adjunct any of the above natural approaches wh a homeopathic remedy. The point of this would be to help relieve symptoms, giving the other approaches a chance to work. The homeopathic remedies do not suffer from the disadvantage of side effects like the prescription medications do. This type of solution uses natural ingredients that help restore balances in the body – seeking the end effect of stabilizing moods and forming the basis for a positive outlook.

Because of the side effects of ADHD prescription medications, alternative treatment for ADHD may be worth checking into both for your child’s well-being as well as yours. You would not be the first parent to worry about the negative side-effects that strong medications can and often do bring.
