Managing your stress

We work out. We watch what we eat. But
most of us don’t have a program for
effectively managing our stress. Recent
research has linked stress to over 80% of
diseases, affecting virtually every
chronic condition. However, mainstream
medicine focuses predominately on drugs
and surgery, not on prevention and
wellness. While it is true that more and
more medical professionals are emphasizing
the importance of healthy diet and
exercise, very little attention is paid to
stress management.

Dr. James Gordon, MD, (www
.jamesgordonmd.com
) founder and
director of the Center for Mind-Body
Medicine and has created groundbreaking
programs of comprehensive mind-body
healing for physicians, medical students
and other health professionals. He has
also worked with people with cancer,
depression and other chronic illnesses;
with New York City firefighters and their
family’s post 9/11; and with families
ravaged by war in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Now Dr. Gordon would like to share his approach to stress management. He and other top medical experts in the field have developed a stress management “course in a box” called Best of Stress Management. Based on Dr. Gordon’s well-respected training programs for health professionals, Best of Stress Management is a learning program that provides everything needed to create an individualized mind-body health program. Taught by Dr. Gordon and his colleagues, the program includes video and audio instruction and exercises, written materials and ongoing interaction with experts via the web. Recently, the Center received word that they have won a $3m, 3 year grant to take the program on which the kit is based to Gaza, the West Bank and Israel to address the serious trauma problem of the region.
