Plant Based Remedies – The More Natural Approach

- Less Side Effects

echinacea bigPerhaps one of the biggest reasons to choose naturally occurring plant (or phyto) chemicals and their healing properties are the terrible side effects of prescription medications. There are so many documented side effects to prescription meds that it is mind boggling.

We have all experienced or heard of the situation where someone had to change prescriptions because of the ‘side-effects’.

Some people get on additional prescription meds to counter the side-effects of the original drug. Remember the older woman who had so many pills to take everyday that she could not keep track of them all and needed a special system to know when and how to take which drug?

Dangerous drug interactions kill many more people than you might imagine every single year in hospitals. This shows that even the medical professionals have trouble preventing the problems that come from dangerous but overlooked combinations of drugs.

Next time you buy a prescription drug – ask for the list of side-effects from your pharmacist – don’t just go by the package insert, get them to print you the FULL list.

- Less cost

goldenseal Natural Herbal Remedies ReviewPlant based, ‘natural’ remedies are not isolated, synthesized and concentrated specific chemicals or ‘active ingredients’. One of the theories of natural healing is that natural phyto (plant) chemicals work in tandem to promote healing.

Contrast that with concentrated, isolated chemicals or ‘active’ ingredients that have been copied from plants and artificially recreated in a laboratory, mass produced and prescribed to you. It’s like processing food, all the ‘natural’ is gone!

Plant based remedies don’t need to recoup the costs of expensive studies, trials, mass marketing and law suits for dangerous side effects that were NOT discovered (or were ignored) before sending a drug to consumers!

Conclusion:

ginseng Natural Herbal Remedies ReviewLife has become so complicated and it seems that we pay through the nose for solutions that might actually be less-than-ideal.

What if our world’s doctors and scientists actually focused on studying and using treatments that actually worked, that were simple, uncomplicated and didn’t cost millions and billions of dollars to produce?

How come people are able to help themselves with less expensive, natural alternatives AFTER the expensive, side effect riddled solutions that seem to be so expensive and cause even more problems to human beings did not work (or not as well)?

Have they been looking for answers in the wrong places?

Start healing, living and loving more naturally!

Are Plant Based Remedies About to Make a Major Come Back?

herbal remedies Are Plant Based Remedies About to Make a Major Come Back?I was just reading an article the other day about the new round of weight loss drugs that big pharma is about to release. The article went on to talk about all of the undesirable side effects of weight loss drugs. Some of these side effects include increased blood pressure and heart rate, nausea, dizziness, sleeplessness. Not surprising, since most of them are similar to or related to amphetamines (speed drugs).

Government websites say things like, “these drugs are for short-term use only” and “should only be used by people with BMI (Body Mass Index)of over 30″.

It does seem that there is some caution being emphasized in using these drugs. There must be a good reason that the government says it is for ‘short-term use only’. That really should not surprise anyone. Have you ever heard of a prescription medication that did not come with a list of side-effects?

That brings me to the major point of this article. When I read the story about the weight loss drugs, I couldn’t help but think how blind we can be as human beings. It seems that we get into a certain mode of thinking and we have trouble getting out.

Complicate that with the notion that big companies are after big profits and it becomes even more understandable that we often get lost in a realm of short-sightedness.

Many of our modern prescription medications are isolated, synthesized and concentrated copies (with slight alterations to make it patentable) of naturally occurring plant chemicals! Therefore, many potent remedies, treatments and possibly even ‘cures’ could be growing in our back yards, our gardens or in a nearby wooded area or forest!

The problem is that most of us have no idea what plants do what and in what quantities we might need them. What they do and what healing properties they have is a complete mystery to us. Neither do we have the time to experiment or try them out either.

We rely on doctors to help us medicinally, but they seemed bound up in the world of pharmaceuticals and perhaps have lost sight of the knowledge that their predecessors had of plant herbs, tinctures, and medicinals.

What happened to all of the knowledge? Modern times are different but are they really THAT much different than the old days? We has all of this lost knowledge gone.

It may still be around, just a little bit harder to find. What if there was a list of plant based remedies that you could tap into any time you wanted to? That would be cool wouldn’t it?

As costs and side effects sky-rocket, will this knowledge and these plant based remedies make a come back?

By the way, I have to give my legal and medical disclaimer here, so bear with me for a moment:

St John’s Wort

This plant has been used to stabilize mood levels. Some people choose it over anti-depressant medication. In Europe, it is a bit more widely utilized. US government agencies refute or minimize the alleged anti-depressive qualities of this plant.

Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that this natural plant has an effect on to produce a balanced mood and possible feelings of well-being – This from research conducted by Shelton, R.C and others.

It is most widely used as a natural treatment for depression. Again, most frequently in Europe. Most notably, it finds particular favor in Germany. Hypericum is the scientific name of the plant species. It is also called Klamath weed as well as Tipton’s weed.

Be forwarned that the National Center for Complementary and Alterntive Medicine, which is a division of the National Institute of Health feels from their testing that St. John’s Wort has minimal or no effect when compared with a placebo during testing. At the same time, other researchers have concluded that it does have an effect beyond placebo.

You be the judge!

Baking Soda for Acid Reflux…

Even if you look on the box of Arm & Hammer baking soda, you will find that it says something about using a very small amount of baking soda in water and drinking the water, it can have an antacid effect.

Which is pretty cool. For other home remedies, visit the site for herbal remedies.
