Food Irradiation

The use of radiation to ‘decontaminate’ food is growing around the world. It is not known to me if these kinds of food are required to be labeled as such or not.

I do not have a lot of facts surrounding the irradiation of food. Much of what I have found is speculatory in nature. However, YOU, as a consumer have the responsibility to educate yourself about the benefits and detractors of irradiated food.

If I know a food has been irradiated, I don’t want it. I’d rather throw it away than eat it. There is no way to know what that ‘dead’ food will do to you, especially over the long term.

I’m a big believer in the natural enzymes that occur in foods and I believe they are good for the body. But with irradiated food you get a lot of dead enzymes. I don’t want that. Do you? Denatured proteins? Mutated or deformed molecular structures? Who knows what all this will do to us? Do we really know what is truly needed or are our scientists playing a guessing game with OUR lives.

Can you blame the scientists? They are simply producing studies that are paid for by people and companies who have the money to pay for such research. Do you think the information provided isn’t distorted or slanted in favor of the payer under such circumstances? Or if they are not, do you think the temptation is there? And if it is, how many will succumb to that temptation?

I’m asking for a reason: to stimulate dialog on these issues and other related ones.

The following FAQ does not come from an unbiased source. However, at the same time, I think it is worth taking a look at. As I mentioned before, each person is going to have to go after an education about radiation and food form himself / herself. The information isn’t very likely to come to you!

Here is the FAQ I found: http://www.purefood.org/irrad/irradfaq.cfm#1

Hydro Floss - Product Review

hydrofloss[1] This product review is also about my story of fighting back against gum disease. The Hydro Floss was the first tool that I found to actually be useful in that struggle.

It helped my gums to stop bleeding. But it wasn’t just about bleeding gums which are more or less indicative of gum disease.

You see, for years my gums would bleed while the hygienist was cleaning them. I didn’t know any better. I thought it was normal and I didn’t think much of it. I wasn’t told any different and obviously I wasn’t told what to do about it.

Therefore, the problem got progressively worse. It seemed as if it was sudden, but it actually took years to get to this point. One day, I was told that I needed a root scaling and planing treatment because there was tartar (hardened plaque) under my gums.

You see, a root scaling and planing isn’t like a regular cleaning. They actually numb your gums up and then proceed to scrape below the gums down along the root surface. That sounded like it was going to be excruciating when the anesthetic actually wore off. I just plain didn’t like the sound of that.

To make matters worse, I was told that I had to sign a waiver that stated if I didn’t get this cleaning done, they wouldn’t be responsible if I lost my teeth. At this point, I was a little bewildered. I wondered why there wasn’t any warning of this given to me in the past.

I didn’t like what I was experiencing one bit. I decided to refuse the root scaling and planing treatment and try to figure out if there was something else I could do instead.

I searched and searched and decided that I would try the Hydro Floss.

The Hydro Floss is an interesting device that uses magnets. A Journal of Periodontology study had shown good results with the Hydro Floss.

I decided to get one and try it. It was a little messy to use at first. But fortunately it came with an instructional video. I quickly got the hang of it.

The Hydro Floss has turned out to be an indispensable part of my oral care routine. I still use it on a daily basis.

After about five months of using the Hydro Floss, I went back to the dentist for my regularly scheduled cleaning.

The dentist and hygienist seemed a bit perplexed. I was actually told that there was no more tartar build up under the gumline and that whatever I was doing, I should keep it up.

Of course, I’m absolutely delighted by the results. I didn’t have to get that root scaling and planing treatment after all.

That is my story about utilizing the Hydro Floss. I’m glad that I found it and I still use it daily and plan to continue using it on a daily basis.

I would want another one if something happened to mine. Fortunately, they appear to be of very sturdy construction. I’ve had mine for two years and it is still going strong.

The nice thing about the hydro floss is that it helps you to clean your mouth in a better way than just brushing and flossing, in my opinion.
I think this is a good tool to have for many reasons. It’s nice to use it after a meal to get all the food particles that are stuck between your teeth out. It can leave you with a nice, clean feeling that you might not get with regular brushing alone.

One unit comes with 4 tips, so a single Hydro Floss can be used by the whole family.

Hey, it stopped my gums from bleeding!
