Do you know when GTR–guided tissue regeneration–will be available to us? I have root recision that is giving me sensitivity and some cosmetic problems. For example, there is so much recision on my front lower teeth that sometimes someone asks me if I have something stuck in my teeth when it’s just a large, empty dark triangle of space between two teeth that can look like I have something stuck there.
Thanks,
Mary
Answer:
Even though they have done it in the lab, it will be a while before it is done commercially and widely available.
The consensus seems to be that the ability to regenerate will be a few years out still .
It is extremely difficult to get tissue to grow over a tooth where it has previously receded. That has been the problem up until now.
But a dentist I know tells me it should be a few years before they have a workable solution.
I wish I had better NEWS on this – sorry. Be patient. If you really cannot wait, a gum graft might be something to look at.
If you go that route, I would utilize a periodontist.
Sincerely,
