Addiction is very powerful. In my opinion, the only way to freedom is for the addict to take responsibility and pull himself / herself out.

All other measures are temporary - long term success will only come if the addict can make the change from within.

Please post your drug abuse stores at http://www.Drugabusefocus.com

Drug use is influenced by a variety of factors. Most people abuse drugs to escape, or mask their problems.

The drugs are used for the perceived benefits and not for their potential harm. I was addicted to alcohol for 25 years and needed it as a crutch and for my day today survival.

The media also plays a big part in creating alcoholics, by glamorizing drinking.

Alcohol is terrible when it seems to take over proper logic.

Every day you can promise to be right home ,say from work, but oh no.

It becomes all important. Never mind that your wife and children are at home cold without heat.

Yet they [the addict] can be ever so loving and lovable.

No doubt life with any type of addict can be a form of hell. When it is alcohol no way would I believe it to be a disease.

I believe it's choice.

They can change, they can quit. This I know. I also know an addict should start changing himself.

You can change. No one else can do it for you.

I recently wrote an article called, Addiction From Another Perspective" . This article is my attempt to put into words what I think addiction is all about. I hope you enjoy reading it. We all suffer from addictions, just to varying degrees. I think the most obvious examples are of drugs and alcohol, but what about all those other little things we are addicted, like chocolate? :)

Discovering our own addictions is like a journey of understanding wherein we might get a chance to reveal some of our deeper selves. With greater understanding of self we can really grow.

I've also recently written an article about heroin addiction . Addiction to this drug is among one of the most powerful and destructive. Unfortunately, the addicted person is driven to use heroin several times per day. I haven't done much research on crack addiction yet, but I bet I'll find something very similar. Drug addictions can send one on a downward spiral. I hope that anyone that read this will be inspired to beat their addiction and return to a normal life.

I have a friend who stated that Falun Gong meditation allowed him to beat his drug and alcohol addiction. He plays drums for some fairly famous rock-n-roll bands.

If you have an addiction, be sure to consult your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

Free Forever Recover Program was written by an ex-drug and alcohol addict who was a rocker in bands like 'Sly and the Family Stone'.

His site says that an addiction must be replaced with something better to get rid of the addiction.

I have not read his book, but thought it might be worth investigating for those who are serious about kicking the habit.
