How Can I Get Rid of Dry Skin?

olive oilDry skin can be very annoying. Dry skin can get very, very itchy.

To combat this, sometimes I take an olive oil ‘bath’. I stand on newspaper in the bathroom and rub olive oil on my skin.

I stand there for 10 minutes to let the oil soak into my skin and then shower the excess oil off. As a result, my skin does not become itchy.
I need to repeat the process at least once every other day to maintain the effect.

Besides olive oil there are many other oils that can do something similar when it comes to dry skin.

skin-care-products2But, what if you combined several oils together in just the right way? Would it create a product that would help to make your skin smoother, less dry and even more silky?

Has someone created such a product? These guys [AFF] think they have. They claim to have the ‘ultimate dry skin solution’.

Personally, I’d settle for the less dry part. There is nothing quite as annoying as that dry, itchy skin feeling that usually comes on in the winter time.

I guess the indoor heating just dries my skin right up.

While we are on the topic: It is much easier to become dehydrated in the winter than in the summer. So be sure to get adequate amounts of water into your body.

Being properly hydrated can bring all kinds of benefits to the body.

Water is also important to the health of your skin.

Personally, I do think that being fully hydrated makes a big difference. What if drinking adequate water caused your body to be energized to the point that you no longer felt the need to drink coffee for energy?

Wouldn’t that be something?

Anyway, this page is supposed to be about skin, so let’s get back to that.

Here is a smoothing skin lotion that you can make at home:

skin Smoothing Skin Lotion—Mix 1 teaspoon honey with 1 teaspoon vegetable oil and 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice. Rub into hands, elbows, heels, and anywhere that feels dry. Leave on 10 minutes. Rinse off with water.

Bathing too frequently may cause dry skin. Using harsh soaps is also contributes to the problem.

As mentioned above, dry skin is more frequent in the winter time than the summer, probably due to furnace forced dry, hot air. The skin can even begin to dry or crack.

Some things that may help:

avoid scratching the skin

Use gentle soaps (like neutrogena)

pat yourself completely dry, instead of rubbing

take less frequent showers or baths

use a humidifier to compensate for dry air

use bath oils and moisturizers – thick, greasy ones work best

drink plenty of water daily.

try over-the-counter cortisone creams

If these home care measures are not enough or if your skin starts to crack and peel or becomes scaly or has open sores – consult your doctor immediately.
