I just heard that melatonin is a good tablet to take to keep your gums from receding. Is that true?

I’m a bit curious to learn where you heard that?
Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland in the brain. . Regulating sleep is one of the things that melatonin may do.
However, I’ve never heard it said that it could prevent gum recession.
I’d also be skeptical about believing such a thing.
Most of the time gum recession is associated with gum disease or brushing too hard – or a combination thereof.
Hormones may increase one’s likeliness of getting gum disease, but I’ve never heard anyone say that melatonin could prevent it.
To stop the progression of gum disease or to prevent it in the first place, there has to be some type of mechanical action on a daily basis to break up the plaque that is constantly forming on your teeth and gums.
Therefore, my opinion is : Nutritional items, supplements, and even medications may be supportive of the gum tissue and fighting gum disease, but by themselves, they are not enough to either prevent or stop gum disease.
It is true that some nutritional deficiencies may make you more susceptible to gum disease, but nutrition alone will not stop it. – That’s my understanding and opinion.
Brushing and flossing are good choices, but may not always be enough as evidenced by the high incidence of gum disease in the human population.
