What Tonsil Stones Are
Tonsil Stones are also known as tonsilloliths and are usually small and often, but not always, foul smelling concretions that tend to develop in the folds of the tonsils.
75% of people participating in a bad breath study had tonsil stones. Only 6% of those with clean smelling breath and a very low reading on the halimeter (device to measure bad breath) had tonsil stones.
Bad Smelling Breath
The breath often smells because of the material that makes up the stones. The odor comes from hydrogen sulfide gas and other sulfur like compounds that are emitted from the tonsil stones.
Symptoms of Tonsil Stones
Sometimes the presence of tonsil stones will accompany a feeling of some object stuck in the back of the throat. It is important to note that this is not always the case and you can even have larger stones without feeling them at all.
The victim of tonsil stones can also experience a metallic taste in the mouth, or have bouts of choking or coughing. Again, this does not necessarily have to be the case and the stones can exist without these symptoms.
Tonsil Stone Removal
Some have been able to remove the stones by gently pressing against the tonsil with a gauzed finger.
If this does not work, there are two items that can help.
The first is a tonsil stone kit, designed to help you remove the tonsil stones.
The second is the Hydro Pulse which comes with a throat attachment. My friend, Elise, stated that this device dislodged a surprising number of tonsil stones that she did not even know were in there.
As a side note, her chronic sinus problems were relieved by daily use of the Hydro Pulse.
How the Stones Form
It is not completely certain how these calcifications are formed but there are a number of plausible ideas.
Some feel that they are formed by a combination of one or more of the following: Dead white blood cells, calcium or salt crystals, bacteria, mucous and possibly other similar items as well.
It is believed that dairy product consumption and smoking without a filter may also contribute to the formation of these often problematic concretions.
The Kit mentioned previously and the Hydro Pulse come with money back guarantees for a risk free chance to remove tonsil stones.
